Marbella Guide - Fuengirola
Fuengirola is probably most famous for its five miles of sandy beaches, flanked by high-rise hotels and residential blocks of apartments with magnificent views of the Mediterranean and sweeping coastline and there is a lot to do ranging from visiting the aqua park (15€ adults, 10€ kids, Tel
95 246 04 04
) , a trip to the zoo (similar prices,
tel: 952 666 301) and a host of sea sports or a leisurely sight seeing tour on a horse-drawn carriage, or by foot. This is particularly recommended for Fuengirola's neighbour, Los Boliches which still reflects the ambience of a bygone era with narrow streets, neighbourhood shops and traditional white washed houses which once belonged to the local fishermen.
Tuesday is market day ( El Mercadillo ), open in the morning, it is the biggest outdoor market on the coast and attracts visitors from nearby resorts as well as the locals. It is well worth going down to browse at the wide range of wares for sale, from fake designer clothes and watches to more traditional Andalusian produce. In addition, there is a flea market on Saturdays.
Fuengirola Tourist Information Office (952 46 74 57) is located at Plaze Jesus Santos Rein and is worth calling in to because they often have discounted tickets for the main attractions.
